Hi, I'm Steve.
My name is Steven Oluic, and I am running in the May 5, 2026, Primary Election for Geauga County Commissioner. As a retired Lieutenant Colonel with 27 years of service in the U.S. Army, a scholar, and a local leader, I have spent my life solving complex problems and leading organizations through challenges and change. Geauga County deserves leadership that is proactive, disciplined, and fiercely protective of the taxpayers. My message is simple: "No more status quo!"
My Platform
The "status quo" is no longer enough. If elected, I will focus on these core pillars:
- Affordability: We must keep Geauga County an affordable place to live, work, and raise a family. This starts with disciplined spending and a refusal to accept unnecessary tax burdens.
- Eliminate Fiscal Waste: I will initiate a comprehensive county-level review to identify waste and improve transparency. We need a modern, commonsense approach to financial management, accountability, and voter representation.
- Restore Authority to You: The authority of the Board of Commissioners has been usurped by other elected officials. I will work to regain the decision-making power that the voters entrusted to this Board, ensuring your elected commissioners - thus you are the ones truly steering the ship.
- Foster a working environment for County employees, enhancing morale, retention, inhibiting petty in-fighting among the county’s leadership and open clear lines of communication. Let our employees do their jobs – leverage their experience and knowledge.
- Maintain our conservative values while ensuring compassion and empathy to those in need.
- Retain Geauga’s unique character – rural and small town flavor.
My Experience
I offer a unique blend of high-level administrative experience & commitment to our local community:
- Military Service: Retired Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army. I understand the value of a chain of command, the weight of responsibility, and the necessity of mission-first leadership.
- Veteran Advocacy: I am proud to serve as the current Quartermaster for Chardon VFW and Finance Officer for the Chardon American Legion, supporting those who have sacrificed for us.
- Academic & Scientific Rigor: I hold a PhD in Geography & a Master of Science in Environmental Science, and I am a former Dean at Lakeland Community College.
- Proven County Service: I served as the Director of Geauga County Water Resources and currently serve as the Chairman of the Geauga County Mental Health Board. I have a "boots on the ground" understanding of how county government operates—and where it must improve.
